Open to Buy: Spring Classics
Marc has the Midwestern gentleman look on lock. The Centerville, Ohio native, who’s often seen sporting a vest and blazer in the buying office, describes his style as “classic contemporary” and appreciates the fine details of everyday garments. Men hoping to reinvent their style this spring, take heed; as Marc outlines the essentials of any wardrobe, spotlights which brands to watch, and explains why Leonard Cohen can (and should) be your style icon too.
What are the mainstays in your closet?
A well-fitted pair of blue jeans, a tailored blue blazer, basic v-neck sweaters, a mix of white and blue shirts, and brown dress shoes. Every guy should own at least these wardrobe staples because of their versatility.
What are some of your favorite trends for spring and which do you see sticking around? How would you advise men to incorporate these trends into their existing wardrobe?
For the most part, everything is getting a little cleaner and more sophisticated. This is very easy for our customer to appreciate, and we believe he will enjoy the selection we've picked out for him.
Who is your favorite emerging designer right now?
My favorite emerging label is Ovadia and Sons because I really appreciate their contemporary take on classic menswear, paired with their commitment to excellent craftsmanship. Mark Shale offers several similar brands with the same core values: Gitman Brothers, Oxxford, LBM 1911 soft coats, JW Brine chinos, and Paraboot shoes.
Which established designer have you been most surprised by for spring?
I was pleasantly surprised by how brands like Hiltl continue to stay fresh and interesting season after season.
What are some of your fashion “Dont’s”?
Don’t wear something if it makes you feel self-conscious. Always be yourself.
What are some of your favorite magazines and blogs to follow menswear fashion?
I especially like Bill Cunningham’s work and the style section of The New York Times.
Outside of the menswear world, where do you find inspiration?
Leonard Cohen has always been a style icon for me because of his consistency to always look so well put together. He's one of those people that looks like he was born in a suit. It doesn't hurt that he also happens to be one of my favorite musicians.
